BOE approves District Facility Plan

Spencer County High School has the most requested renovations of all the schools in the approved district facility plan.

The Spencer County District Facility Plan Committee gave its final recommendations to the school board members on Aug. 21.

The plan reflects what the committee believes is needed in the district, but not necessarily what the district can afford to complete.

Capital construction priorities included new construction, and major renovation/additions of current educational facilities, and KERA Strands new additions.

At SCHS, major renovations suggested include site development including:

• paving and parking

• roof replacement

• exterior brick veneer (not included in 1994 renovation)

• doors, including hardware and windows, interior finishes and accessories

• bleachers

• lockers

• casework

• signage

• HVAC replacement with associated electrical upgrades and finish

• ventilation system replacement in the Family and Consumer Science Lab

• electrical/lighting/service upgrade

• plumbing upgrades, including fixtures

• life safety systems to include fire protection and annunciation systems

• ADA egress, including paving, annunciation and accessibility, plumbing equipment, fixtures, and toilet accessories

• security system upgrades, including closed circuit tv, and secure entrance vestibule systems

• reconfiguration of the vacated athletic space to accommodate Special Education and CTE spaces

• a new large gymnasium for performances, with adequate seating for in-house graduations.

The committee also recommended constructing:

• 2 Resource rooms, 375 sq. ft each

• Computer Lab, 1,280 sq. ft

• Science Lab, 1,625 sq. ft

• Band Room addition, 323 sq. ft

• Youth Services area, 300 sq. ft

• Custodial receiving, 250 sq. ft

The high school has had previous renovations in 1981, 1989, 1994, and 2010.

At SCMS, major renovations suggested include site development including:

• roof replacement

• HVAC replacement with associated electrical upgrades and finish

• life safety systems to include fire protection and annunciation systems

• ADA egress, including paving, annunciation and accessibility, plumbing equipment, fixtures, and toilet accessories.

• security system upgrades, including closed circuit tv, and secure entrance vestibule systems

• enlarging the cafeteria space

• adding a wall between the food service areas

Discretionary Construction Projects for SCMS include:

• updating existing athletic fields and facilities, including sports field lighting

• multi-purpose athletic facility to include restrooms, indoor athletics, and storage

The middle school has had previous renovations in 2005.

At SCES, major renovations suggested include site development including:

• roof replacement

• HVAC replacement with associated electrical upgrades and finish

• life safety systems to include fire protection and annunciation systems

• ADA egress, including paving, annunciation and accessibility, plumbing equipment, fixtures, and toilet accessories.

• security system upgrades, including closed circuit tv, and secure entrance vestibule systems

• remediate masonry cracking at exterior wall at the corner of courtyard

• add a roof to the open space in the middle of the school, turning it into two classrooms and a large computer lab

• rework the parking/drop off area to keep vehicles off of KY 44 before and after school.

Discretionary Construction Projects for SCES include:

• updating existing athletic fields and facilities

SCES has had previous renovations in 2000.

At TES, major renovations suggested include site development including:

• construction of a new wing consisting of five standard 800 sq. ft. classrooms per grade

At Hillview, major renovations suggested include site development including:

• paving and parking

• roof replacement

• doors, including hardware and windows, interior finishes and accessories

• bleachers

• lockers

• casework

• signage

• HVAC replacement with associated electrical upgrades and finish

• life safety systems to include fire protection and annunciation systems

• ADA egress, including paving, annunciation and accessibility, plumbing equipment, fixtures, and toilet accessories.

• security system upgrades, including closed circuit tv, and secure entrance vestibule systems

Hillview has had previous renovations in 1944, and 1990.

At ELC, major renovations suggested include site development including:

• paving and parking

• roof replacement

• doors, including hardware and windows, interior finishes and accessories

• bleachers

• lockers

• casework

• signage

• HVAC replacement with associated electrical upgrades and finish

• Electrical/lighting/service upgrade

• Plumbing upgrades, including fixtures

• life safety systems to include fire protection and annunciation systems

• ADA egress, including paving, annunciation and accessibility, plumbing equipment, fixtures, and toilet accessories.

• security system upgrades, including closed circuit tv, and secure entrance vestibule systems

• reconfigure space to accommodate additional Early Learning Center space and Headstart in the upper level.

ELC has had previous renovations in 1958, 1964, 1967, and 1972.

District-wide White Board Initiative:

• Provide fixed computer TVs in all classrooms with wireless capabilities district-wide

• 13 Interactive Smart Boards

• roof replacement

• life safety systems to include fire protection and annunciation systems

• ADA egress, including paving, annunciation and accessibility, plumbing equipment, fixtures, and toilet accessories.

• security system upgrades, including closed circuit tv, and secure entrance vestibule systems

The District is in need of a new Elementary School, with a Phase 1 student capacity of 400, with oversized common areas to accommodate growth (up to 800 students).

Part of this would be the acquisition of property, which would fall under a Discretionary Construction Project.

Also recommended is the construction of a new 5,000 sq. ft. central maintenance/storage facility or the purchase a facility suitable for this purpose.
